Ideas?
I'm hoping for a not-too-traumatic reason for someone with a six-ish year old son to not go to his planned family Xmas.
The family is close by, the person with the son was planning to go, but at the last minute was unable to. It's in California, so weather won't likey be a factor, and I want the person and his son to be free to travel to another Xmas celebration.
I'm wondering about Chicken Pox? Like, if the kids in the extended family all came down with it, maybe the dad wouldn't want to expose his six-year-old? But I've heard of some people so eager to get the pox over with that they deliberately expose their kids to it, so maybe the dad wouldn't stay away.
Any other ideas?

I agree that Chris and Ryan have a lot of exploring to do. I jumped forward in time a little for the Christmas story, so we don't see a lot of their early relationship... I got a bit muddled between the 'published' stories and the 'extras', with all the extras happening pretty soon after the end of the second published novel, but the third published novel a couple years later. And now the Christmas extra is coming well after the end of the third novel, so, yeah, Chris and Ryan have been together for a while. We do see them, but I kinda missed the building of their relationship. Damn.
And I'd love to discuss the m/f vs. m/m further. I find myself increasingly drawn to m/f, but I'm not sure why, or what the implications of that are, or... anything. I'd love to hear ideas, and I get an e-mail notification of any comments, so I'd absolutely go back and read things on that post.
Thanks for your support and your interest, and for taking the time to let me know about both!
