People have trouble getting ideas for what to write about? Really?

I just stumbled across this clip. I really like the way the man has found a place for himself, and is doing his thing, on his own. And then, of course, I wonder what the story would be if the man was younger (and hotter). Why would a young man be doing this? What did he leave behind in the outside world, and will he ever go back? And what will happen when an ambitious real estate developer decides to tear down the ruins in order to build luxury condos? Or maybe just to salvage the scrap metal and avoid lawsuits. Or maybe there's a community outreach worker of some sort who takes it upon himself to check on the man living in the factory, and maybe that worker is young and hot! Hmmmmmm...

I think people who live on the fringes of society are fascinating. They've stepped outside our societal obsessions (eg. worrying about being young and hot) and must have an interesting view of the rest of us. I'd like to write this story someday.
